Two of life’s greatest joys are chatting with friends and sharing a meal. Just because you are a new denture-wearer, it doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice these pleasures.
Although there is an adjustment period that comes with getting new dentures, there are ways to minimize that time. Here are some tips from Dr. Vishal Advani, your Elk Grove Village dentist, on hacks for new denture-wearers.
Plan ahead so you can eat foods that are soft and easy to chew. Some suggestions include:
Be sure to take smaller than average bites while you are growing accustomed to your dentures. Stay away from foods that are chewy (such as steaks) or that require you to bite with your front teeth.
As you become more accustomed to the dentures, add in other foods that you love. In the weeks and months after getting your dentures, you’ll find it easier to chew.
These can help keep your dentures in place as you become used to speaking and chewing with them. The adhesive also creates a protective barrier so you can avoid getting small particles of foods trapped beneath your dentures.
People have been wearing dentures for many years—and doing so successfully. You can too! Give yourself time to get used to them. Today’s dentures are more comfortable and look more natural than ever before.
If your dentures still don’t feel comfortable and more natural after several weeks, give us a call. They may need to be adjusted.
