Smoking limits the growth of blood vessels, which also inhibits healing.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC also reports that <strong>smokers have twice the risk of developing gum disease than do nonsmokers<\/strong>. What\u2019s more is that <strong>gum disease treatment isn\u2019t always as effective on smokers<\/strong>, particularly those who have been smoking for a long time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Those who use smokeless tobacco, such as chewing tobacco, are 50 times more likely to develop oral cancers than nonusers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Other issues that can arise in your mouth as a result of tobacco use include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teeth that are yellowed and stained; your tongue can also become stained.<\/li>\n<li>Your sense of taste and smell can become dulled.<\/li>\n<li>Healing after having a tooth extracted or some other surgery is slower.<\/li>\n<li>Cosmetic dental issues can be more difficult to correct.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Stop the Devastating Effects of Tobacco<\/h2>\n<p>The simple answer to the negative impact of tobacco on your oral health is to simply quit using tobacco products.
